Nutrition & Functional Medicine Offerings
How we nourish ourselves is more than what we put on our plates. Yes, diet is important as are your relationships, your sex life, your work-life balance…
Personal Training Offerings
It’s important to be physically active and to get and stay strong, especially as we age. Let’s meet up in the gym, your place, or online to get you moving and lifting.
There are no big decisions, only small.
Making the decision to trust someone new with your health is an important first step that you should feel good about. There’s a reason you’re here reading this right now.
You’ve been looking for more support and you’re disappointed about being told everything you’re dealing with is normal. It doesn’t feel normal. And you’re not overly motivated to do what you’ve been told: “Take this pill so you won’t feel so bad about feeling so bad.”
I understand. You’re here because you’re interested in getting to the root cause of your concerns. You don’t want to ‘band-aid’ the problem and cover up the symptom(s) any longer. You want to know what’s causing you to feel off and you want to address it and move past it once and for all.
I will personalize a plan for you that will be as comprehensive as you like. It may include diet and lifestyle guidance, weight loss support, hormone balancing, nutritional supplements, compounded pharmaceuticals, and/or personal training geared to your exact needs.
What are you waiting for? Let’s get to work!

Here we get to work! Sometimes this is an iterative process; meaning we agree to try something and then we evaluate together whether it had the benefit we had anticipated. Sometimes root causes are elusive and that is exactly what this process is about…getting to the root cause of the issue.

AREAS OF FOCUS
Gut Health
IBS, SIBO, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, reflux, constipation, loose stools, bloating, pain, candida overgrowth, dysbiosis, food sensitivities, allergies, and intolerances…these are some of the most common gastrointestinal (GI) health concerns and they can be very disruptive to everyday life.
Dietary changes, whether temporary or long-term, play an important role in reclaiming well-being. Specialty diagnostic testing may be helpful to getting a full picture of what is going on. Sometimes supplements can help move the needle toward health a bit more quickly and they may be used as an intervention. Sometimes supplements become a cornerstone of ongoing health maintenance.
Working with a professional that has extensive experience in functional medicine is a great way to determine the quickest path toward restored GI health and a return to vitality.
Autoimmune
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, and Lupus are some of the most common autoimmune diseases. It can be devastating to receive a diagnosis of this sort. But it doesn’t have to mean a lifetime of disability or ongoing medical interventions. In fact, it is very possible to put an autoimmune condition into remission through specific and personalized diet and lifestyle interventions. I should know as this is my story.
In 2009, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis after my health care practitioner found I had elevated levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies. While I was not prepared to hear what he had to tell me about what I needed to do to change my diet so that my condition would subside, I did indeed follow his guidance. And six months later my antibodies were no longer elevated. I’ve stayed the course with those dietary interventions, and I’ve not had any issues with my thyroid since my autoimmune diagnosis over 14 years ago. I have not needed thyroid hormone replacement medication and my health has only improved over the years due to the diet and lifestyle program that I follow.
Making Your Diet Work For You
How we nourish ourselves is important, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. I like the concept of ‘bioindividuality’… that everyone is unique and fully capable of tuning into the messages their body provides. It takes a little bit of guidance, but it’s easier than you think to master that inner wisdom around how to best take care of you.
The goal is to have you be the expert on you. That’s what our work together entails. I’ll help you make connections about what has worked for you in the past; where things may have gone awry; and, suggest various approaches to a dietary plan that may work going forward. That’s the rub though…our lives are always changing and it’s good to know how to pivot based upon what you hear your body telling you.
Again, I consider it my job to help you learn to identify patterns that are not serving you well, recognize your body’s cues and create habits that are more supportive so you may know how to adjust for the seasons of the year and the seasons of your life.
Body Positivity, Physical Activity, & Fitness
Being physically active and improving fitness levels are the best way to develop confidence and find that thing that we’re hearing lots about lately…’body positivity.’ I look at this body positivity concept as not just about accepting ourselves for where we are, but celebrating ourselves for the work we’ve done to accomplish the goals that have gotten us to where we want to be.
Fitness goals differ from person to person. Some people are focused on leaning out and being a certain percentage of fat and lean muscle. Others simply want to be able to walk around the block with the dogs without getting winded. Some want to run their first 5k. Others are looking at logging a first marathon. Whatever it is, physical fitness ties into our self-esteem and our body image. When we work on our fitness we feel better in our body and we radiate a positivity about our physical appearance.
The only thing that matters about the way we look is the way we feel about the way we look. When we feel strong and healthy in our bodies, we radiate happiness and set our own standard for what is ideal.
When you work with me you will be encouraged to embrace a fitness regimen if you do not have one, OR we will reevaluate the pros/cons/outcomes of the regimen you have had in place. As a personal trainer, I will guide you toward activity levels and strength training protocols that are right for you.
Hormone Balance & Sexual Health
Following a balanced diet that works well and getting to a comfortable level of fitness that you feel good about…these both go a long way toward hormone balance and sexual health.
BUT!!…to be honest, there can be more to it. A lot more. And that is what can make mood regulation, sexual health, and graceful navigation of the various ages and stages of our life (for both males and females) a bit tricky to negotiate. Stress – be it emotional, social, familial, professional, financial, illness-related – can play a big role in throwing hormones out of whack.
Furthermore, while diet and lifestyle can look good from a distance, sometimes upon closer examination we find that certain patterns are working against rather than for optimal hormone health. For example, intermittent fasting has become a popular topic in the weight loss and longevity conversations, but this may or may not be a factor causing physiological stress for a woman going through hormonal fluctuations.
Other hidden causes of hormone imbalance may be related to sleep quality, sleep duration, vitamin D levels, toxin exposure, liver congestion, or blood sugar metabolism issues, to name just a few.
Feeling happy, healthy, and comfortable in our bodies is foundational to a fulfilling sex life, which is undeniably an important aspect of overall wellness. Perhaps this is an area of your life from which you feel disconnected. That would not be surprising in the case that you are not feeling like yourself or if you feel like all of your energy is going toward trying to manage your life despite feeling unwell.
Sexual fulfillment may not even be on the radar for you when it comes to thinking about getting your life back. BUT I assure you it’s on my radar when it comes to what I would like for you to consider embracing. Unless you tell me this is not at all important to you: please know I’ll be holding space for you to explore your sexual health and intimate connections more completely once we’ve arrived at the place you feel ready.
Specialty Diagnostic Testing & Supplements
In certain situations it is helpful to gather objective data from lab tests in order to get a full picture of what is going on. After careful examination of the options, we may decide together to pursue diagnostic testing that can provide additional information and inform our course of care.
Testing options available through SYMPLE wellness include:
– DUTCH adrenal and sex hormone panels
– SIBO breath testing
– Micronutrient panels
– Food sensitivity panels
– Comprehensive metabolic panels
– Complete blood count panels
– Complete thyroid hormone and antibody panels
– GI Stool panel tests
Dietary supplementation
Specific tests allow us to make decisions about what dietary patterns to adopt and whether nutritional supplementation may be necessary to support overall health. Additionally, results may support collaboration with other health practitioners whose expertise may be required.
There are some nutritional needs that are best supported by higher than normal intake and exceed what is reasonable to consume through diet alone. In this case nutritional supplements are a great option to cover the basic needs that are usually not possible to obtain through food alone, even with the most health-oriented diet.
Most people require an omega-3 supplement as well as vitamin D along with a B complex and possibly magnesium.
A probiotic may also be a good idea on an ongoing basis. Of course, this is just general guidance and the doses and duration are always specific to the individual and personalized based upon state of health or what the lab tests may indicate.
SYMPLE wellness partners with only the top nutraceutical manufacturers and provides innovative options such as dose specific pill packs, autoship delivery, and easy-to-follow protocols.
